Access
There are three ways to access the site;
The benefits for each method of access are as follows:
Anonymously
You visit the MaCommune site (http://www.macommune.lu/) without using your name, or user ID. This will also be indicated on the top right of the screen. You will only have access to public information, photos and videos. You will not have access to online forms, any financial or administrative dealings with your commune (local taxes etc), or forums with elected officials, municipal officials, and community members.
However, you can always send a message using « contact-us »
Member (also see under Identification)
You log-on using your user name (your email address) and password. You will have access to all community information. You can also personalize the page to provide you with the information you require using the tool bar options.
Authorised member
You Log-on using your user ID (your email address) and password and a reference code from your Tancard. You will have access to all services provided by MaCommune.lu (administrative procedures, online forms, financial dealing with your commune (local taxes etc.) ) and online payments to your Commune. You also have the opportunity to take part in forums with elected officials, municipal officials and other members of the community.
To use this system, you must have a Tancard. This card is sent to the head of the family by the Commune. You will be able to authenticate your identity with a LUXTRUST card as soon as your TANCARD has been activated.
If you have not received your TANCARD, please contact or go to the Population bureau in your municipality to get a TANCARD.

It comprises of:

Using Internet Explorer
- Go to http://www.macommune.lu/
- Click « tools » on the menu tool bar
- Select « internet options » then the « General » tab
- Under "Home Page" click "Use Current"
- Click "OK" to save
Using Google Chrome
- Go to http://www.macommune.lu/
- Click the key icon and then "Options"
- On the "Basic Options" select "Open the following pages"
- Click "Use Current"
- Click "Close" to save
Using Mozilla Firefox
- Go to http://www.macommune.lu/
- Click the "Tools" menu at the top of the browser
- Select "Options"
- On the "General" tab select "Show my home page" for "When Firefox starts"
- Click "Current Page"
- Click "OK" to save

- Drag and drop the Macommune.lu icon on the "Home" as shown at the top of the page
- Click "Yes" in the window that opens to confirm the choice

Using Apple Safari

- Click "Preferences" then "General" tab

« macommune.lu » provides extensive news on what is happening in the region in the following languages; English, Luxembourgish, French, German, and Portuguese. You can choose your area of interest using the filters provided.

Commune: is my Commune on line?
More than 200.000 persons have signed up with MaCommune.lu. However, your Commune may not be accessible via the Internet yet.
If your Commune is not accessible via the Internet, please let us know by sending us a message using the contact us form.
Please note that Luxembourg City has a specific site http://www.vdl.lu.
Administrative procedures and work (teleservices, online forms, financial dealings with your Commune)
MaCommune.lu offers you the opportunities to complete various administrative requirements and forms online without having to travel.
Once your user ID has been identified and authenticated when you log on to the service, your personal information will automatically be entered in the electronic forms that you need to complete.

Registering with macommune.lu
You can always visit MaCommune.lu without signing in.
But if you want to take full advantage of what the site offers (taking part in community forums, online forms and payments), you will need to sign up to the service. Once you have signed up, the site will be able to verify who you are and provide you with a secure environment to communicate and take part in Community discussions.

Free Service
macommune.lu is a free online service.
Be careful with telecommunication roaming charges if you access « macommune.lu » from abroad using a phone with an Internet connection. We do not recommend this mode of access. For a cheaper option to try to find a WiFi access point (or hotspot).
Virtual help and Information desk, « de Guichet » (Citizens, Businesses)
The site « http://www.guichet.public.lu/ » provides extensive information to private persons and businesses regarding Administrative matters.
The information is also available in French and German.
Registration, Registration Forms
Recommendations:
Your password should consist of a minimum of 8 characters, including a number and letters in upper and lower case.
You can find more information and advice on the official Data and information protection site (CASES), for example, test how secure your password is.
Include your mobile phone number! It can be used to by various administrative bodies to send you SMS's (see SMS2citizen).
We also recommend that you tick the box «I authorise Macommune.lu to send me notifications by E-mail ».
Captcha is a program that generates a code that current computer programs can't read. It is designed to protect both you and the MaCommune.lu site from abuse.

At the end of a form, you will need to click on « I accept» to verify that you have read and agree to the General terms and conditions of use (CGU).
Luxembourg City (commune)
Luxembourg City commune's website is not accessible via macommune.lu
However, links between MaCommune.lu and the capital's website can be found at www.vdl.lu
Navigators, browsers
macommune.lu works with most navigators, these include: Microsoft Explorer, Apple Safari, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Opera to name the ones most currently in use. Most computers now come with a navigator already installed, however, you can always download a second.
Our Recommandations :
Favourites, Tabs, Bookmarks:
macommune.lu suggests that you add their site to your favourites, tabs or bookmarks «http://www.macommune.lu» (The way your register will depend on the browser you have chosen).
Computer, Laptop, PC
MaCommune.lu is accessible via any computer with Internet which uses the navigator of your choice (Explorer, Safari, Chrome …) and that runs on most operating systems (Windows, MacOS, Linux …).

To see the images which are of interest to you, go to « Pictures » and use the « filters » provided:

Intellectual Property and Copyrights
The CASES site will have all of the information pertaining to the legislations in Luxembourg.
Protection of personnel data (data protection privacy)
Your personal information is protected. On the CASES la législation applicable site you will find legislation that deals with the protection of personnel date; of particular importance is the Law pertaining to the protection of personal data, more specifically Articles 22 and 23.
According to the law of 2 August 2002 on the Protection of Individuals with regard to the processing of personal data, you have the right to access, rectify and oppose this data. To exercise this right, you can contact the Syndicat Intercommunal de Gestion Informatique (SIGI) by sending a request using the following form.
RSS, RSS files or RSS Feeds
An RSS file is sent by a website to all MaCommune.lu subscribers. Subscribers are then automatically notified when new information pertaining to their area of interest is released.
Recommandation :

Emergency and rescue services
112.public.lu is the official site of The Grand Duchy of Luxembourg's emergency and rescue services. It is recommended that you visit this site and know how to deal with any unforeseen emergencies that may arise.
Safety
Internet: The site bee-secure.lu gives parents excellent advice on the use of the Internet by children and adolescents.

SMS, SMS2citizen
Thanks to sms2citizen service, your commune can send SMS's regarding administrative notices directly to your mobile phone. You can also receive information on community subjects that you have chosen to be notified about.
All mobile phones can receive SMS's from macommune.
Tablets
Tablets that include Apple iPad or the Samsung Galaxy Tablet provide a larger screen that those of mobile phones. They can be used as an alternative to a notebook, laptop or PC.
A macommune.lu application can be downloaded for free for your iPad. There will soon be free applications available for Android Tablets.
TAN Card
The TAN Card is a small card the same size as a credit card.
To activate your TanCard go to: https://activate.macommune.lu
Once your account has been activated, the Tancard will be used to verify the user and ensures the privacy of your online dealings with macommune.lu.
Your local commune will address the Tancard to the head of your family/household and post it to your current residential address.
Here is what your Tancard will look like. Your name is not written on it to reduce the risk of third party use should your card be lost or stolen. For security measures you will be asked for your user name, email address and Tancard number when you log on to your account.
In case of loss or theft of your TANCARD, please inform your municipality or go in person to get a new TANCARD.
TAN Card Activation
If you already possess an account (e-mail address and password) MaCommune.lu created on the old version, please click on the following link:

Insert your e-mail address and password in order to activate you “TAN Card”.
Mobile phone (portable, handy, GSM)
You can of course access macommune.lu if you have a mobile phone with Internet access. Depending on your Luxembourg mobile phone provider or the phone package that you have, costs are not always high in Luxembourg. However, roaming costs while abroad can be high. See « free ». Using an internet connection at home or accessing the internet via WiFi or a Hoptspot while away from home is a preferable method of connection.
Should you have a mobile phone that doesn't have internet access; you can always receive SMS's via sms2citizen regardless of your provider or price plan.
Recommendations :
Smart phones « smartphone » have a larger screen and better interface than regular mobile phones.
At the present time there is fierce market competition between iPhone and mobile phones running the Android operating system.
A free macommune.lu application is available to download for iPhones. There will soon be free applications available for Android smart phones.
SMS, sms2citizen
The service sms2citizen allows your commune to send you brief message either for administrative purposes or about the themes of interest that you have selected.
Any mobile phone will be able to receive an SMS from macommune.lu
When registering with macommune.lu, please remember to include your mobile number.
Videos
You can use 4 possible filters to find the video that is of interest to you.

- The first filter to the left for the « source »for example RTL, police or even the name of your commune
- The second for the theme/subject «Interest?»
- The third for the Place/Location «Where?»
- The fourth for the time/date of the event «When?»
